On our last day in Taitung, we drove out to Hsiaoyehliu, where we saw interesting geologic formations that nature and time have generously left behind. What I really liked about this area was the close proximity to the sea. In the afternoon, the waves intensify and loudly announce their arrival before receding softly in twilight. There is a tranquil, gentle feel about Taitung. The mix of people makes the local culture vibrant and we enjoyed making friends with representatives of indigenous groups. Whether you go to attend the hot air balloon festival, surfing competitions, triathlons, or to visit the many sites along Taiwan’s east coast, Taitung is a place you shouldn’t miss. Many thanks to Magistrate Justin Huang and all of AIT’s friends at the Museum of Prehistory for making our visit a memorable one….km
